Painting Letters onto a Canvas

This has been a game changer for me in the crafting world! This trick allows you to paint in any font you want! First, you print off what you want on your canvas. You need to print it in black so it will show up when you turn the paper over.

Then, outline the letters with pencil on the backside of the paper. It's easiest to see the letters if you put the paper on a light colored surface. I did a couple layers of outlining just to make sure it would show up.

Turn the paper over and place it where you want your letters to go. Tape your paper down so it doesn't move out of place once you've started.

Trace the letters again on the correct side. This will leave a faint pencil mark of the outline of the letters. Be careful not to trace too hard, as you don't want to stretch or dent your canvas.

See?

And all that's left to do is paint in the lines!

  1. Oh my goodness!! This is adorable! Ok, so next week, while Kyle is out of town, can we schedule a craft day? I have a blank canvas that I would love to do this on for Kaitlin's room! Can you help me? :-)

  2. Hi!! I just found this on pinterest. I'm creating a canvas gift for my Mom with a verse from Matthew to give her for Christmas.
What paint brush did you use?
I have a hard time getting details with my brushes ....and with staying inside the lines because my brushes, I guess, are too fluffy. This looks great!! Thanks
    And Merry Christmas :-)

  3. Princess, I just got a package from Walmart with an assortment of brushes. For the letters I use one with small, firm bristles. Hope that helps!
